Summer is in full swing, and temperatures are in the '90s here in Seattle. Perfect time to set up the hot plate and make some more encaustics(!!!). I spent the July 4th holiday printing up three new works, mounting them to panels, then making a fresh batch of encaustic medium before applying it to the panels. They've just been delivered to the Columbia City Gallery where the hanging committee is busy laying out and installing all the pieces. I'm excited to share the gallery with the Northwest Encaustics, who will be featured in our guest gallery this month. If you like encaustics, this will be a great show.
I've been busy this summer shooting lots of raw material to have on hand in preparation of new pieces. I'm trying to incorporate more symbolism in my images, and to provide more of a story line undertone. With that in mind, I've included the American flag in a new piece, "Memorial." I hope the new direction is successful. If you'd like to check out this new batch of work, join me Saturday, July 11, from 5-8 pm for the opening at the gallery, on the main drag in Columbia City.
